Our client, a leading international law firm dedicated to serving high-net-worth individuals and families, is seeking an experienced Private Client and Tax Associate to join their New York office. This is an exceptional opportunity for a skilled attorney to advance their career within a prestigious global firm known for its expertise in private client and tax matters.

Position Overview

The applicant will play a crucial role in providing comprehensive legal services to the firm's distinguished clientele. The successful candidate will work closely with senior attorneys to advise clients on complex wealth structures, estate planning, tax analysis, and trust administration. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to the team's profile and engage in business development activities to foster long-term relationships with private wealth contacts and intermediaries.

Responsibilities

  • Provide a full range of private client services, including estate planning, trust and estate administration, and tax planning
  • Draft sophisticated estate planning documents, such as testamentary estate plans, irrevocable grantor and non-grantor trusts, and leveraged gifting strategies
  • Conduct research and apply rules governing estate, gift, GST, and income taxation of trusts and estates
  • Assist with gift and estate tax return reporting and preparation
  • Identify and advise on cross-border and income tax issues
  • Contribute to the team's profile through writing articles, attending events, and building networks with private wealth contacts and intermediaries

Requirements

  • J.D. required; LL.M. is a plus
  • Minimum 4-6 years of experience practicing in a law firm's Trusts & Estates and/or Private Client group
  • New York Bar membership required
  • Strong drafting, writing, research, and communication skills
  • Domestic experience required; international experience and/or income tax experience a plus
  • Excellent project management skills with the ability to balance competing priorities
  • Previous experience drafting, explaining, and finalizing sophisticated wealth planning strategies and documents
